The Bach Society of St. Louis presents Voices of the Baltic Coast on Sunday, October 12, at 3 PM at St. Stanislaus Polish Church, 1413 North 20th Street in St. Louis. "After decades of suppression under communist rule, composers of the Baltic States returned to writing sacred music following their liberation in 1991. Experience this rarely-heard and enchanting a cappella music of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania in the beautiful setting of St. Stan's. Cristian Macelaru conducts the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and soloists Joo Kim, violin, and James Czyzewski, cello, in a program of the music of Tchaikovsky, featuring the "Romeo and Juliet—Fantasy Overture" and the "1812 Overture", Friday at 10:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m., October 10-12. "Known as the bombastic tune that accompanies Fourth of July fireworks, Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture closes out an all Tchaikovsky program with a brass fanfare finale certain to bring you to your feet! Appearing for the first time on subscription in five years, this celebratory piece is a fitting way to commemorate our year of milestones." Winter Opera STL presents Michael Ching's "Speed Dating Tonight," a one-act opera about the trials and tribulations of finding love in a world that moves too fast.
