St. Louis classical calendar for the week of April 8, 2019

Events this week include new concerts by the Chamber Project, the Chamber Chorus, and the Civic Orchestra, along with a Harry Potter film event at Powell Hall.

The Chamber Project St. Louis
The Chamber Project St. Louis presents Beloved on Saturday, April 13, at 7:30 pm. "Passion, sensuality, jealousy, kindness. What does love sound like? We will explore the many facets of the love relationship from parental love, to love that moves beyond the restrictions of society, to a love doomed to fail." The performance takes place at the 560 Music Center in University City. For more information: www.chamberprojectstl.org.

St. Louis Cathedral Concerts presents the Choir of New College, Oxford on Sunday, April 14, at 7:30 pm. "The Choir of New College, Oxford is one of the most celebrated and acclaimed choral groups of the UK. The Choir comprises sixteen boy choristers and fourteen adult clerks; the latter a mixture of professional singers and undergraduate members of the College. The boy choristers benefit not only from the matchless education provided by daily contact with superb music, or the satisfaction of performing at a professional level, but also from generous bursaries at New College School." The performance takes place at The Cathedral Basilica on Lindell in the Central West End. For more information: cathedralconcerts.org.

The St. Louis Chamber Chorus
The St. Louis Chamber Chorus presents Grief on Sunday, April 14, at 3 pm. "The focus of the concert is the “Passion Week” of Maximilian Steinberg, a forgotten Russian masterpiece that was suppressed by the Soviets but has recently been rediscovered. Complementing Steinberg's music, performed in the home to Polish Christians in St. Louis - St. Stanislaus Kostka Church - will be two motets each by the contemporary Anglo-Polish composer, Roxanna Panufnik, and an Anglo-Bulgarian wunderkind, Dobrinka Tabakova. These female composers remind our audience that the Chamber Chorus is committed to place the music of women in the mainstream of our repertoire, and not consign them to a special program." The concert takes place at St. Stanislaus Parish Church, 1413 North 20th Street in North St. Loius. For more information: www.chamberchorus.org.

The St. Louis Civic Orchestra performs on Sunday, April 14, at 3 pm. This program will also feature Enigma Variations by Elgar. In a continuation of our participation in the Partners in Parkway program, the Civic has also invited orchestra students from Parkway Northeast Middle School to join us for a portion of this concert."
