St. Louis classical calendar for the week of March 18, 2019

Events on the classical scene this week include Gilbert Varga conducting a French Romantic program at Powell Hall, opera tunes for wind octet at the Sheldon, and mezzo Tamara Mumford performing at the 560 Music Center.

The Chamber Music Society of St. Louis presents A Night at the Opera on Saturday, March 23, at 2 pm. The concert consists of music from the operas of Mozart and Beethoven arranged for wind octet and takes at the 560 Music Center at 560 Trinity in University City. Gilbert Varga conducts the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, along with cellist Daniel Müller-Schott Friday at 10:30 am and Saturday at 8 pm, March 22 and 23. The program consists of The Sorcerer's Apprentice by Dukas, Lalo's Cello Concerto, and the Franck Symphony in D minor.
