The Metropolitan Orchestra performs on Sunday, March 4, at 7 p.m. "The evening begins with violinist Shawn Weil and oboist Ann Hommann performing Bach's Concerto for violin and oboe in c minor. Bach, who changed jobs a half-dozen times, frequently reworked his music in different forms, giving the avid Bach listener much occasion for déjà vu. The evening continues with Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture, a powerful musical description of the breaking of the waves, and the overwhelming vastness of the cavern known as Fingal's Cave. The concert concludes with Beethoven's Fourth symphony. A work taut with muscular strength, propelled with unstoppable momentum and shot through with its composer's unmistakable stylistic fingerprints." The concert takes place at First Presbyterian Church in Kirkwood. For more information: metro-orch.org.

The Pulitzer Arts Foundation presents members of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 27 and 28, at 7:30 p.m. The performance consists of chamber works by Miyoshi, Britten, and Takemitsu, and takes place in the newly renovated space at the Pulitzer Arts Foundation, 3716 Washington. The program consists of Smetana's Sárka from Má vlast ("My Homeland"), Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1, and Schumann's Symphony No. 1 ("Spring"). The concerts take place at Powell Symphony Hall, 718 North Grand in Grand Center. For more information: stlsymphony.org.
