Albion Theatre Company presents Molly Sweeny by Brian Friel March 15 through 31. “Blind since infancy, Molly is persuaded by her husband and a surgeon to undergo an operation to try to restore her sight. “What has she got to lose?” the men ask.  This powerful drama by one of Ireland’s greatest playwrights tells Molly’s story through monologues from the perspective of three characters: Molly, her husband Frank, and her surgeon Mr. Rice.” Performances take place in the Black Box Theatre at the Kranzberg Center, 501 N. The Black Rep presents The Wedding Band by Alice Childress opening on Wednesday, March 13, and running through March 31.  “Carrying the subtitle “A Love/Hate Story in Black and White,” this is one of American drama’s most revealing tales of interracial love, addressing prejudice and ignorance in early 20th- century America. The Lemp Mansion Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre and Jest Mysteries present A Fistful of Hollars  through May 4. "Gun slingers, dance hall girls, cowboys, gold diggers, cowboy boots and ten-gallon-hats will abound. Rowdy cowboys will duel to the death as the crooked sheriff watches with glee. But none of these characters are as dangerous as Nasty Nate, he’s the orneriest gun in the west and word is that he’s going to be stirring up trouble at the Lemp Mansion. Eileen Engel in Jacey's Jazz Joint

The Midnight Company presents Eileen Engel in Jacey’s Jazz Joint Wednesdays, March 13 and 27, at 7:30 pm. “Engel is Jacey.  You’re at her place, and she wants you to have the best time.  Jacey and her band will be performing some of the best songs you’ve ever heard, done in their inimitable Jacey’s Jazz style.  As the evening goes on, the songs will trigger memories, and Jacey will re-veal stories of where the money came from to open the joint (a guy named Johnny), how the thorny relationship with Johnny evolved, and the dangerous conclusion to their romantic journey.  The heartfelt songs Jacey sings echo the joy and pain of their love.” The show is written and directed by Joe Hanrahan with music direction by Colin Healy. Sweet Potato Queens

New Line Theatre presents the musical Sweet Potato Queens through March 23. “Get ready for the outrageous, high-powered, Southern rock musical that tells the true story of "Boss Queen" Jill and her closest friends in Mississippi, and how they learn to grab life by the sequins, feathers and tiaras to live their lives out loud, on their own terms.” Performances take place at the Marcelle Theatre in Grand Center. The Political Theatre Group presents A St. Paddy's Day Palooza Saturday at 8 pm Saturday and 2 pm on Sunday. “Act One contains popular Irish songs performed by Paul Kruta.  Paul is a regular performer of Irish music at Morrison's Irish Pub in Alton, IL. Set list includes rebel/patriot tunes and Irish drinking songs.  Act Two contains the Irish one-man play The Good Thief by Conor McPherson and performed by Anthoy Wininger.  A ruffian reveals the remorse and regret he feels after a botched job leads to murder, kidnapping, and finally a desperate flee that results in unfortunate casualties and imprisonment.  The show contains graphic language.” The show takes place at The Gaslight Theater, 358 N. The Servant's Last Serve

The Theatre Guild of Webster Groves presents the comedy The Servant’s Last Serve Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 2 pm through March 17.  “It is 1912, London. Due to a misdiagnosis from his incompetent doctor, wealthy Sir Winston Livingston believes he is going insane and does not have long to live. He summons his staff and opportunist niece from North Carolina for a formal reading of his will. Livingston Manor falls into chaos when Sir Winston announces he is willing the entire estate to his beloved cat, Master Fifi. Included in this announcement is the provision that should the cat predecease Winston the estate would be divided among the servants and his niece.” Performances take place at the Guild theatre at 517 Theatre Lane, at the corner of Newport and Summit in Webster Groves. The Alpha Players present  Prelude to a Kiss by Craig Lucas Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sunday (March 3 only) at 2 pm through March 3. “Snuggle up for a “late” Valentine’s Day with this modern fairy tale about the enduring power of love! It’s a romantic fantasy about newlyweds Peter and Rita. At their wedding a mysterious elderly man congratulates Rita with a kiss and by a quirky twist of fate, the kiss causes them to switch souls. Rita finds herself living in the old man’s body and the old man in hers. To complicate matters, the old man is dying. Peter must think fast to reverse the spell and regain his bride. Edwards through March 10.  “Premiering off-Broadway in 1997, this one-person dramatic comedy received three AUDELCO awards for excellence in Black theatre and has had a limited tour in the years since. The story centers around an African American man who believes he will receive the power to fly on the night of a special celestial event. The St. Louis University Theatre Department and Prison Performing Arts present Dreaming of Lear: A Devised Work Based on Shakespeare’s King Lear directed by Lucy Cashion. “Dreaming of Lear is a multi-media reinterpretation of Shakespeare’s tragedy filtered through the unconscious. It is a work of devised theatre in which participating artists reconstruct the play based on dreams while listening to King Lear's recordings. The production the audience experiences consists of recorded interviews with the ensemble of dreamers, fragments of Shakespeare's King Lear, and the realization of the ensemble’s dreams on stage. The Winter's Tale

The Washington University Performing Arts Department presents Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm, and Sunday at 2 pm through March 3. “Once upon a time . . . King Leontes of Sicilia accused his childhood friend King Polixenes of Bohemia of seducing his wife. His jealousy was groundless and preposterous, and yet no one could dissuade him from it. Even when the “Oracle” confirmed his wife Hermione’s innocence, he rejected the truth and pushed his entire kingdom into further turmoil. Ultimately, Leontes lost everything -- wife, family, and all those who loved him. Years passed . . . and a new generation moved the world beyond the imperious behavior of delusional men. Geography shifted, magic became possible, and a world formerly driven by rage was re-envisioned to one where reconciliation and understanding prevail.”  Performances take place in the Edison Theatre on the Washington University Campus. Winter Opera presents Victor Herbert’s operetta Naughty Marietta Friday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 2 pm, March 1 and 3. “The operetta is set in colonial-era New Orleans and follows the adventures of a spirited young woman named Marietta, a French princess who disguises herself as a servant to escape an arranged marriage. Marilyn Maye

The Cabaret Project presents Marilyn Maye Thursday and Friday, February 22 and 23, at 7:30 pm. “Get ready to be star-struck by the one and only Marilyn Maye. If you’ve witnessed her greatness before you know it’s time to see her again. If you haven’t, there’s no time like the present. The word iconic is often overused, but in the case of Maye it seems just right. Together they revolutionized atomic science in the 1920s, but now they are on opposite sides of a world war. In this incisive drama by the prominent British playwright, which premiered at the Royal National Theatre in London and opened to rave reviews on Broadway (ultimately winning the 2000 Tony Award for Best Play), the two men meet in a situation fraught with danger in hopes of discovering why we do what we do.” Performances take place at the Gaslight Theatre on North Boyle. Stray Dog Theatre presents the Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 through February 17. “As news spreads of a murder in London, seven eccentric strangers find themselves snowed in at a remote countryside guesthouse. A police sergeant unexpectedly arrives, concerned that the murderer at large may be one of the guests at the Manor. The Black Rep presents the world premiere of Hold On! By Paul Webb through January 28.  “Although the Civil Rights Act of 1964 legally desegregated the South, discrimination was still rampant in certain areas, making it difficult for Blacks to register to vote. In 1965, an Alabama city became the battleground for suffrage. “Hold On!,” the inspiration behind the award-winning 2014 feature film “Selma,” explores the conflict between two extraordinary men, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Lyndon Baines Johnson. Both brilliant leaders, their personal battle, like the battle on the streets of Selma, is ultimately decided by King’s greater moral courage.” Performances take place at the Edison Theatre on the Washington University campus. The Blue Strawberry presents singer Spencer Jones and pianist/music director Dr. Jeffrey Carter in Home for Christmas on Wednesday December 27 at 7:30 pm. “A native St. Louisan, Spencer Jones is a 2023 graduate of Kirkwood High School. His stage career began at the age of 7. He is now an avid songwriter, living in NYC, and auditioning for theater and film projects. Since moving to NYC in September, Spencer has booked a cabaret show at Chelsea Table and Stage in October, having made his cabaret debut earlier this year in St. Louis.In Home for Christmas, we will be hearing the Broadway and pop songs that have most influenced him, including songs of the season.
