The Choir of St. John's College
The Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis presents The Choir of St. John's College, Cambridge on Friday at 8 p.m., April 8, at the cathedral at 4431 Lindell. "The Choir of St John’s College, Cambridge is one of the finest collegiate choirs in the world – known and loved by millions from its broadcasts, concert tours and over 90 recordings. Founded in the 1670s, the Choir is known for its rich, warm and distinctive sound, its expressive interpretations and its ability to sing in a variety of styles. First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood presents a concert by The Metropolitan Orchestra of St. Louis on Sunday, April 10, at 7 p.m. "Season Four concludes with Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass. The Choirs of Webster University and guest conductor, Trent Patterson join Conductor Laureate, Allen Carl Larson in this powerful work. The Hettenhausen Center for the Arts presents Cameron Carpenter featuring the International Touring Organ on Thursday, April 7, at 7:30 p.m.  "Virtuoso composer-performer Cameron Carpenter smashes the stereotypes of organists and organ music, all the while generating worldwide acclaim and controversy. His diverse repertoire includes the complete works of Bach, film scores, original works and collaborations with jazz and pop artists." Opera Theatre of Saint Louis presents the Annual Spring Recital for its Monsanto Artists-in-Training vocal program on Sunday, April 10 at 3:00 p.m.  This year, the competition will be adjudicated by internationally acclaimed American mezzo­ soprano Denyce Graves, who previously appeared on the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis stage in the 2013 world premiere of Terence Blanchard’s Champion. The St. Louis Chamber Chorus presents Concert Five: All Manner of Gods on Sunday, April 10, at 3 p.m.  "Choirs have celebrated numerous faiths over the centuries. The Ethical Society presents a Great Artist Guitar Series concert with Xuefei Yang on Saturday, February 13, at 8 p.m. "Born in Beijing and now based in the UK, she was the first-ever guitarist in China to enter a music school (Beijing's Central Conservatory of Music), and the first Chinese guitarist to launch an international professional career. Lee Demertzis and Steven Cheng playing Robert Schumann's Sonata for Violin and Piano in A minor and the Sonatensatz by Johannes Brahms. The St. Louis Cultural Flamenco Society presents Salvadora Galan in concert on Saturday, May 30, at 8 p.m. "Don't miss this opportunity to experience Flamenco in its most compelling form with an artist supremely gifted as both guitarist and singer in a one woman show, presented by the St. Louis Cultural Flamenco Society. The New Music Circle presents the NMC Showcase on Tuesday, May 20, at 7:00 PM. "Featured artists will include: Tom Rainey and Ingrid Laubrock, Tyler Damon, and Nathan Cook. Drummer Tom Rainey and saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock are perhaps two of New York City's most active jazz improvisers and sought-after collaborators, and both may be found on any given night performing with musicians such as Anthony Braxton, Tim Berne or Craig Taborn. Drummer Tyler Damon (Bloomington, Indiana) will also make a return to St. Louis after playing a recent concert last summer at the St. Louis Art Museum in a power-house trio with Darin Gray and Mars Williams. Damon will be performing in an improvised trio with Kevin Harris (modular synth) and guitarist Chris Trull (Yowie). "Bassist, composer, and collaborator Joshua Abrams has been an essential voice of Chicago’s vibrant music scene for the past fifteen years, playing and recording as leader and sideman in a wide range of projects and spanning all genres (Hamid Drake, Tortoise, Tony Conrad, Sam Prekop, Jandek, Craig Taborn, Bill Dixon, Kevin Drumm, Bonny “Prince” Billy). The Bach Society of St. Louis presents a Christmas Candlelight Concert on Tuesday, December 17, at 7:30 PM.  “The Bach Society Chorus and Orchestra celebrate the "glory of Christmas" with Bach’s Gloria in excelsis and more Christmas classics. Then, joined by the UMSL University Singers, the combined choirs offer a thrilling performance of John Rutter’s festive and dynamic Gloria. The candlelight procession, a cornerstone of this concert since 1951, is followed by favorite carols of the season. The St. Louis Chamber Chorus presents Concert Three: The Ancients Speak.  “We mark the centenary of both our venue and the great British composer, Benjamin Britten, with the St. Louis premiere of his complete cantata, A Boy Was Born.
