St. Louis classical calendar for the week of June 9, 2014

The Manchester Community Band presents a Father's Day Concert on Friday, June 13, at 6:30 PM. "The second season of summer concerts begins with a celebration of the "Stars and Stripes" and our Dads. "National Emblem March" will reflect our fondness for patriotic tunes, while "Early Light" by Carolyn Bremer takes a different look at the "National Anthem." Other highlights include "Cohan Broadway Festival," "You’re a Grand Old Flag," among additional favorites. Dads in the audience can recall good times past with "Pop and Rock Legends: Music of the Beatles" and let’s not forget about the kids…children will have a chance to climb the podium and take a turn conducting the band." Opera Theatre of St. Louis presents A Little Lunch Music, a free concert with Elizabeth Zharoff (Pamina, The Magic Flute), Corrie Stallings (Gerdine Young Artist Festival Artist), Matthew Anchel (Sarastro, The Magic Flute), and pianist Adam Burnette, on Monday, June 9 at 12:30 PM. The Tavern of Fine Arts presents a classical open stage night on Monday, June 9, from 7:30 – 9 PM. “Come by yourself or bring your quartet. Sight read through a Beethoven quartet or use this as an opportunity to put the finishing touches on that Hindemith Viola Sonata you have been working on. All ages and skill levels are welcome. The Tavern of Fine Arts presents guitarist David Ferrara on Thursday, June 12, at 8 PM. “David Ferrara, a recent transplant to the St. Louis area from Ohio, holds performance degrees from the University of Cincinnati's CCM and from Southern Methodist University, where he studied with noted Segovia pupil Robert Guthrie. He performed in masterclasses with Oscar Ghiglia, Carlos Barbosa-Lima, William Kanengiser, Christopher Parkening, Scott Tenant, won several national competitions as a student, and was a recipient of the Andres Segovia Memorial Scholarship. He has performed with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Pops, Dayton Philharmonic, Azmari Quartet and many other ensembles, and has performed thousands of concerts and gigs over the years.” The Tavern of Fine Arts is at 313 Belt in the Debaliviere Place neighborhood.
